Different Storage Medium for Avulsed Teeth: A Literature Review
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Avulsion is complete displacement of tooth from its alveolar socket. Immediate replantation is the best choice at the site of accident. When replantation is not possible, it should be kept in a storage medium. The storage media keeps periodontal cells with less damage to be able to regenerate and attach and prevents root resorption. The medium selected as a storage medium should be easily available and have adequate osmolality, appropriate PH, nutritional metabolites, and fair price and should not have bacterial content. In literature, different storage medium are suggested, including those containing Hanks balanced salt solution (HBSS), natural products such as water, Aloe Vera, propolis, pomegranate juice, coconut juice, green tea, egg white, milk (whole, low-fat and skimmed milk, butter milk, soy milk, probiotic milk, pasteurized milk, and mixture of egg white and milk), rehydration solutions such as ringer lactate serum, cell culture medium such as eagle culture medium or EMT (emergency medical treatment) tooth saver, medical media used for keeping organs such as viaspan, commercial media such as GC Tooth Mousse, growth factor treatment, and laser irradiation before tooth replantation. Due to studies limitations and heterogeneous data, nothing is recognized as an ideal medium.

Milk as an interim storage medium for avulsed teeth.
In this study, milk was evaluated as a potential storage medium for avu]sed teeth. In various experiments, storage in milk was compared to storage in saliva, in water, and to air drying. The results demonstrate that milk is significantly superior to saliva, water, and air in preserving periodontal ligament fibroblast viability. Based on these results, it is recommended that when an avulsed toot...
متن کاملPomegranate Juice (Punica Granatum): A New Storage Medium for Avulsed Teeth
OBJECTIVE There is evidence indicating that pomegranate juice contains many of the essential properties necessary to retain cell viability and cell proliferation. These properties indicate that pomegranate juice is a suitable storage medium for avulsed teeth. However, this idea has not yet been tested. In this study, the capacity of pomegranate juice (PJ) as a storage medium for retaining avuls...

متن کاملA multiparametric assay to compare the cytotoxicity of different storage media for avulsed teeth
Aim: To evaluate the cytotoxicity of several storage media (coconut water, whole milk, isotonic solution, Hank ́s Balanced Salt Solution and tap water) using a multiparametric cytotoxicity analysis employing 3T3 cells. Methods: Plates containing confluent 3T3 fibroblasts were exposed to the various media for 24h, at 37°C with 5% CO2, and cell viability was evaluated by a multiparametric assay as...
متن کاملA new storage medium for an avulsed tooth.
AIM The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of egg white in maintaining the viability of human periodontal ligament (PDL) cells on avulsed teeth. METHODS AND MATERIALS The experimental media were: egg white, milk, Hanks' Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) as the positive control, and tap water as the negative control. The storage times were 1, 2, 4, 8, and 12 hours. Extracted premol...
متن کاملAvulsed Tooth - A Storage Medium Dilemma an Update
Avulsion injuries deal with exarticulation or total luxation of the tooth out of its socket as a result of a blunt impact on the tooth due to contact sports, road accidents or fights which leads to severance of the neurovascular pulpal supply, separation of the PDL and exposure of the root surface (oral/extra-oral environment contaminated with microorganisms) [1,2]. The success of a replanted t...
